Salt of the Earth French Herb Salt is crafted in Stanford with more Herbes de Provence (savory, rosemary, oregano, marjoram, basil, thyme) from South of France than local desert salt, a touch of garlic and olive oil.

 

Years ago I would bring back these herbs from visits to the markets at Isle sur la Sorgue and others in France and started experimenting with a refined product not only suitable for cooked dishes, but to sprinkle on everyday meals. Bursting with aroma and flavour, it can now be used sparingly (or not) with just about any dish (soups, stews, tomatoes, eggs, avocados), making cooking even the simplest dishes most rewarding.

 

Unfortunately, trials with locally sourced herbs have not produced the same quality so far, but my goal is to harvest my own herbs on our farm here in Stanford to replace the herbs I currently import from France.

 

Joyfully, even international chefs have contacted me to praise this “salt”, which they would purchase on their travels to South Africa! Another comment: “ Your salt has made me a lazy cook!”
